How a corset top should fit
A fashion corset top is not shapewear. It should hold your waist without squeezing it: you should be able to sit, breathe, eat and raise your arms comfortably. If it pinches at the ribs or gapes at the top, it is the wrong size.
- Waist first. The corset should sit at your natural waist, where the body is narrowest.
- Pair it with high-waisted bottoms. The waistband should meet the bottom of the corset. Low-rise pants leave a gap and break the line.
- Between two sizes, size up. Our pieces run slightly small, and a corset that is a little loose can be adjusted; one that is too tight cannot.
8 ways to wear a corset top
1. Over a shirt
The easiest way to wear a corset during the day, and our favorite. The collar and sleeves show, the corset shapes the waist, and the outfit goes from office to dinner. Try the Grace corset over the Angelina puff-sleeve shirt or the Angèle heart print shirt.
2. Over a fine turtleneck or long-sleeve top
The winter version. A thin knit or a fitted long-sleeve top under the corset keeps you warm without adding bulk. The Anna top, with its wide boat neck, works well here.
3. With high-waisted jeans

4. With wide or pleated trousers

Mistakes to avoid
- Two statement pieces at once. A sculptural corset with a printed skirt and big jewelry competes with itself.
- Low-rise bottoms. The gap at the waist breaks the line the corset creates.
- A size too small. Squeezing in does not flatter; it shows.
- A thick knit underneath. Keep the under-layer thin, or wear the knit over the corset instead.
